Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS; Handle with Care, TRUST Training,
CPI, PMCS, or MOAB Must-Have: 1 year of psychiatric experience
Preferred medical experience (MS, MS-Tele, PCU, ICU) De-escalation
experience and restraint use Description: The unit serves patients
with severe mental illnesses and behavioral issues, including
schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder,
anxiety, and trauma. Patients often have multiple comorbidities but
are typically medically stable. Travelers can expect a nurse to
patient ratio of 1:6-12, depending on acuity. On a typical shift,
staffing includes Triage RNs and designated RNs for adults and
pediatrics/adolescents. No charge nurse responsibilities for
travelers. PCTs assist with tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, patient
transport, and helping with daily living activities. Respiratory
therapists are available 24/7, equipped to manage respiratory needs
and provide treatments. RNs are expected to be proficient in
identifying significant rhythm changes but aren't required to read
strips from monitor techs. Blood draws are mainly performed by
PCTs. Travelers will be scheduled based on unit needs, required to
work every other weekend, and may participate in holiday rotations.
Travelers must be adaptable and prepared to float to various
psychiatric units as needed. Key personal qualities include the
ability to remain calm, exhibit patience, and demonstrate
compassion for the patient population. Effective crisis recognition
and early intervention skills are essential. Requirements Required
